Here we have tried to capture our approach to web design so that you know what to expect when you are working with us to create your site.
The process begins with a meeting to learn more about your business or organisation. We will discuss what visitors to your site will want to achieve and look at the categories of information and technical features that will help visitors achieve their goals. We can begin to arrange this information in a logical structure (site map) that will go on to form the basic navigation of your new website. If you have an existing website that you are not happy with we will look at that and see where it can be improved.
If you have business cards, logos and other print material this will definitely help the process along because such material helps define the ‘look and feel’ of your site. Brochures can also provide some of the essential content for your website. If you don’t have these things and you’re interested in developing them (or freshening up your existing promotional material) that’s something Pagelogic can help with also.
Another approach that may help you decide on a ‘look’ for your site is to check out existing websites or print material (brochures, business cards etc.) that you like the look of. This can then provide a starting point for your own design.
Domain name registration and hosting
At this stage we can also help you with domain name selection and registration. Your domain name is your web address e.g. pagelogic.com.au. To help search engines find your site your domain name should include your business name. We can help you come up with a domain name that is both search engine friendly and meaningful to your visitors.
Your website will also need to be hosted on a web server. You pay a monthly or annual fee for this service and hosting costs can vary greatly. Again Pagelogic can help advise on hosting options that are suitable for your needs.
If you don’t have any content i.e. the words and images that will appear on your website we can assist with this. We realise that writing is not everyone’s cup of tea. That said, you need to give us something to go on so we either need to discuss your business with you and take notes or you can send us rough notes and we will work up content from this.
Photographs are a must for your website but they have to be of a good quality and the highest resolution possible. We are happy to help with photography if needed and are also experienced at scouring stock photography libraries to find images that can be purchased for use on your site.
Based on the information you’ve provided we develop some ‘mockups’ to show you. These are image files that illustrate a proposed website design. They are not websites and won’t ‘do’ anything but they do feature the colour scheme and layout. We will meet again and discuss the mockups and make any changes.
Once you are happy with a mockup design and we have all your content ready to go, we begin the process of turning your chosen design into a working website. This involves writing the code that will make your website function. If required we will be in touch to clarify any items but in general this stage involves putting our heads down and getting your site up and running. When this is done we load the site up to a testing location for you to preview and check. When you’re satisfied with the finished product it is uploaded to your chosen hosting provider and submitted to Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Bing.
3. Ongoing support
At anytime after your website is uploaded you can request changes or update content. These modifications are charged at an hourly rate or as part of an annual maintenance package. Because your site is built on WordPress you can do routine updates yourself however most clients find it easiest to leave that sort of job to us.
